How do I make an appointment for a copier, fax or scanner?

Make an appointment online or by calling (248) 796 – 4358.

You will need to have your Library card number to schedule the appointment and to show your card when you enter the Library.

Due to social distancing requirements, you are encouraged not to bring another person with you.

Each appointment is for up to thirty minutes. Time begins at the appointment time and not at the time of arrival.

Appointment Quick Tips

  • The Library accepts appointments no more than one week in advance.
  • Appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • No walk-in appointments are allowed.
  • You must have your Southfield Public Library card with you when you arrive for your appointment.
  • A limited number of copiers, fax machines, and scanners are available.

  • Monday and Wednesday 10:00 am – 7:00 pm
  • Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

What will I need to bring to my appointment?

Please bring your current Southfield Public Library card. You need this to enter the Library and to log in to a computer. We cannot provide guest passes.

You are required to wear a mask to cover your nose and mouth while you are in the Library. If you do not have a mask one will be provided before entry to the Library. You are required to wear this mask at all times.

USB drives and headphones/earbuds are not available for purchase at the Library. If you will need them, you must bring your own.

If you want to print or make copies, you must use a Southfield Public Library print card. If you do not have a card, you may purchase one from a card dispenser. The cost of a card is $1.00 and comes activated with a credit of $0.50 toward printing or copying. The dispenser will only accept a $1.00 bill for the initial card purchase. If you need to add funds to the card you can do that in $1.00, $5.00, $10.00 or $20.00 increments. The dispenser does NOT give change and you will not be able to get change in the Library. You are encouraged to bring bills of small denomination so you do not put more value on the card than you need.

The cost per page for copying and printing is $0.15 for black and white and $0.50 for color. This cost applies to both printing and copying. The cost is per side. If you print double sided you are charged for two images. Faxing requires a payment at the drive-up window of $1 per page and there is no charge for scanning.

The only refunds for purchasing print cards, printing, or copying are for equipment malfunction. The refund will be in the form of a credit slip. Redeem the credit at the drive up window or the circulation desk once the desk reopens.

What if I need help at the copier, fax machine or scanner?

Patron and staff safety is of the utmost importance to us. Library staff wear masks at all times and observe at least six feet of social distancing. As a result, staff will not be available to assist you at the device.

What if I want to bring my own laptop or mobile device?

You will not be able to use your device in the Library building. WiFi is available outside the Library. The signal reaches around the building and into the parking lot. The Library SPL-Public connection is available for your use 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

Will I be able to use my mobile/cell phone in Library?

There is no mobile/cell phone use permitted anywhere in the Library building.

Can I browse through the Library’s collection during my appointment?

The Library’s collection is not available for browsing. Contact the Library staff with requests for materials or let our librarians choose items for you. Call 248-796-4200, or use an online request form.

Can I pick up my holds during my appointment?

Pick up holds at the drive-up window. You will only be able to use a computer and print or copy/fax/scan services in the Library.
