Which computers are available for patron use?
The 3rd Floor Computer Lab is available to Southfield Public Library and TLN Card Holders. We cannot provide Guest Passes. Lab computers have access to the internet as well as the Office Suite. Computers are also available for browsing the internet on the 1st and 3rd Floors. Read more about our computer hardware and software here.
Computer stations are designed for one person. Due to social distancing requirements, you are encouraged not to bring another person with you.
Each computer may be used for up to 2 hours per day. Computers automatically shut down 5 minutes before closing.

- Thursday: 11:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Friday: 11:00 am – 5:00 pm

Can I make copies?
Yes, copy stations on the 1st and 3rd Floors are available for use. Color copying is only available on the 1st Floor.
If you want to print or make copies, you must use a Southfield Public Library print card. If you do not have a card, you may purchase one from a card dispenser. The cost of a card is $1.00 and it comes activated with a credit of $0.50 to use for printing. The dispenser will only accept a $1.00 bill for the initial card purchase. The maximum amount allowable on a print card is $20.00. If you need to add funds to the card, you can do that in $1.00, $5.00, $10.00 amounts. The dispenser does NOT give change and you will not be able to get change in the Library. You are encouraged to bring bills of small denomination so you do not put more value on the card than you need.
The cost per page for printing is $0.15 for black and white and $0.50 for color. The cost is per side. If you print double-sided you are charged for two images. The only refunds for purchasing print cards or printing are for an equipment malfunction. The refund will be in the form of a credit slip. Redeem the credit at the drive-up window or the Circulation Desk.
What do I need to bring to use a computer?
Please bring your current Southfield Public Library or TLN card. You need this to log into a computer. We cannot provide Guest Passes.
If you are not fully vaccinated, you are required to wear a mask to cover your nose and mouth while you are in the Library. If you do not have a mask, one will be provided before entry to the Library. You are required to wear this mask at all times.
USB media (e.g., flash drives, thumb drivers) and headphones/earbuds are not available for purchase or loan at the Library. If you will need them, you must bring your own.
Can I get help at the computer?
Staff is not available to assist you in person at your workstation. Quick reference cards are available to help you through basic functions.
If you need additional computer assistance, it will be limited and offered while safely socially distanced or through computer remote assistance software, allowing staff to view your computer screen, have an online chat with you, and provide you with further help.
Can I browse through the Library’s collection?
Yes, the Library is currently open to the public. You can also contact Library staff with requests for materials or let our Librarians choose items for you. Call 248-796-4200, or use an online request form:
