Fracture a Fairytale Short Story Competition for Ages 9-18; April 1st - May 31st

Once upon a time there lived a beautiful princess… or maybe it should start Long, long ago in a land filled with dangerous dragons… or it could start There once lived a little old man… the possibilities are endless, and we want to know what you can dream up for SPL’s Fractured Fairytale Short Story Contest. Authors should take inspiration from well-known folklore or a favorite fairytale and give it a new twist!  

Rules

  • Stories should be original and feature at least one known fairytale or folklore character.  
  • Stories should be between 1,000 and 5,000 words (about 4 to 20 pages double spaced). 
  • Stories should feature at least one scene involving a magical book. 

Submission Dates

  • Optional first draft due May 6, 2022 (only if you are interested in receiving feedback) 
  • All final drafts due May 31, 2022.
