1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is here!
The idea is simple: read 1,000 books to your child before they begin Kindergarten. Sign up for the program in the Youth Room at the Youth Reference Desk. Once you have read 25 books come in to the Youth Room with your reading chart to receive a gift. Check back in with us once you’ve reached 50 books, 100 books, and every hundred books after that. until you reach your goal of 1,000 books read!
Research shows that reading to children from an early age can improve vocabulary and help prepare children for Kindergarten. Reading to children also begins the lifelong love of books and reading.
We know you might read the same book 10 times a week, and that’s normal. Count each reading! As an extra bonus — count all the books read when you attend Storytime events.
Again, storytimes count toward books read! You can find a full schedule of Library events, including Storytimes, here.
