Olujimi Tafataona & In The Tradition

Join us for an evening of music with In The Tradition.

In The Tradition began in 1993 as a formidable hard-swinging bebop ensemble. In 1997, the band began to focus more on African rhythms and the music of the African diaspora yet remaining true to the bebop tradition, creating a unique mixture of jazz and African rhythms.

Every member of In The Tradition are seasoned performers; band members have performed individually with artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Marcus Belgrave, B.B. King, Milt Jackson, Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, Martha Reeves and many others.

In the Tradition features: Imari Jendayi, vocals, percussion and violin; Foluke Shearer, electric piano; Alex Webb, bass; Dave Cheney, drums; Kefentse Chike, djembe, and congas; Olujimi Tafataona, saxophones, flute; Karim Gideon, trumpet, flugelhorn, and mellophone; Danny Carthane, saxophones and flute; Calvin Taylor, baritone saxophone; and Khristian Foreman, trombone.
