Jazz & Blues @ Your Library: Blues Notes, the Music of Jazz Guitarist Kenny Burrell

June 20 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

This will be a show dedicated to the hard swinging, blues infused sounds of legendary jazz guitarist Kenny Burrell. Burrell got his start in the early 1950’s as a sideman for the likes of Oscar Peterson, Tony Bennett and Benny Goodman. He subsequently found his stride as the leader of several recording dates on Blue Note Records. Kenny Burrell uniquely created harmonically complex lines with a touch of soulful blues and at 86 years of age remains active in the music world as a professor and Director of Jazz Studies at UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music.

Detroit Social Club’s tribute to Kenny Burrell, a mix of Jazz and Blues, will include arrangements of some of his classic tunes and in some cases feature accompanying vocals and aural soundscapes.

$5.00 general admission or $3.00 admission for Friends of the Southfield Public Library members. No charge for children under 12.

Jazz & Blues is sponsored by the Friends of the Southfield Public Library and the Detroit Blues Society.
