Friends of the Library Present: An Author’s Tea
March 18 @ 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
The Tea will present a local authors book discussion, featuring Stephen Mack Jones, Mayor of Southfield Kenson J. Siver, Krystal Banks, Dr. Eddie Conner and Renee Micou. A meet-and-greet, book sale and book signing will precede and follow the event.
Light refreshments and beverages by Master Tea Blender Mary Jones will be served and strolling violinist Jay Reid will provide music.
Tickets are $10 for Friends members and $20 for non-members and may be purchased at the Library Guest Services Desk or online at EventBrite at the $20 price only (plus additional fee). All members must show their Friends membership card (not Library card) to get tickets at the $10 member price.
About the authors:
Stephen Mack Jones, accomplished poet and award-winning playwright, will also be at the Southfield Public Library on Wednesday, May 2nd as part of the 2018 Michigan Notable Book Author Tour. His book August Snow is a mystery crime thriller set in Detroit. Jones has had an interesting career path that he describes looking like a sugared up 2-year-old child’s crayon scribble; from working in advertising and marketing communications to a stint in a toy store and writing two stage plays, before achieving success as a first time fiction author.
Mayor Kenson J. Siver is the author of four books including his latest, An Uncommon Criminal : the Extraordinary Life of Edwin Turner Osbaldeston. Mr. Siver has previously authored three histories of Southfield: Southfield Faces the Crucial Decades, A Brief History of Southfield, and The History of Our City in its 50th Year.
Krystal Banks is the author of Don’t Be A. . .Dumb Criminal, which is about preventing the school to prison pipeline. Krystal Banks is the owner of Banks Bail Bonds, with offices in Detroit, Port Huron and Lapeer, that serves the needs of individuals throughout the entire state. She’s been a bail bondsman for 18 years and is the only African-American female property bail bondsman in Michigan. She’s the creator of the free Banks Bail Bonds App that mirrors the company motto, “Bail Before Jail,” to help people quickly gain their freedom from jail. An author and highly-sought speaker, she talks at schools and assists those with a criminal background get back on track with resumes, interview prep and job placement.
Dr. Eddie Conner is the author of seven books including his latest WOMAN, which inspires women to break out of the box and shallow shell of societal norms. Dr. Eddie M. Connor, Jr. serves as Graduate Education Professor, at the prestigious Marygrove College. Dr. Connor is a bestselling author of five books and founder of Boys 2 Books, which provides mentorship to boys and young men via literacy, leadership, and life skills enrichment in schools across America. Boys 2 Books has received national endorsements, from the U.S. Congress, National Black Law Student Association, and Black Male Engagement Initiative.
Southfield resident Renee Micou is the co-author of The Dentist Chair, a compelling fictional novel about Dr. Harry James Maddox, once a highly respected and trusted pillar of the community until he loses focus, bringing shame upon his family, his patients, and his community. His failure to distinguish between right and wrong, between what was moral and immoral, what was professional and unprofessional brought a community to its knees, creating chaos, doubt, mistrust, disgust, and betrayal.
