Author Visit – Mitch Lutzke
April 24 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
The Michigan Notable Books Author Tour presents Mitch Lutzke to speak about his book, The Page Fence Giants: A History of Black Baseball’s Pioneering Champions.
The Page Fence Giants, an all-star black baseball club in Adrian, Michigan, graced the diamonds in the 1890s. Formed through a partnership between black and white boosters, the team’s respectable four-year run was an early integration success story. This book tells the story of a long-ignored team whose Hall of Famer second baseman, Sol White, was only one of the era’s best players.
Mitch Lutzke was an award-winning radio reporter before beginning his second career as a high school history teacher and coach in Michigan.
The program is made possible through the Library of Michigan, the Michigan Department of Education, the Michigan Humanities Council, the Library of Michigan Foundation, Meijer, and the Michigan Center for the Book. Media sponsors are City Pulse, Queue Advertising, and Gennara Photography.
